Choosing the right installer.... making the right decision.
Having decided to fit an alarm or other security system to your property, what should you look for when choosing an alarm system installer?
Always approach a company that has a long history of installing alarm systems. Unfortunately, this is an industry that riddled with "fly by night", "here today gone tomorrow" companies with no interest in the quality of the systems they install or the level of service they provide.
Be sure that your alarm system will be installed and maintained to the current British or European Standard requirements by a company committed to providing this service for you.
Choose a company which is a member of a recognised governing body such as the SSAIB or NACOSS. A certificate of conformity will be issued on completion and you can be assured that the company and it's systems undergo regular checks to ensure full compliance with all standards.
Beware of companies that offer rental agreements. A rented alarm system may appear to be cheap but will cost far more in the long run and terminating the agreement may result in the company removing it's equipment, leaving you to find a new installer.
Also beware of long-term Maintenance Contracts and hidden extra charges, many companies will insist that you sign-up to a three or five year contract or simply include it in their standard terms and conditions without explicitly bringing it to your attention. You could end up 'paying through the nose' and worse still you may find yourself be tied to that installer regardless of the quality of their service.
Some of the biggest names in the industry sub-contract a large proportion of their work to smaller companies and individual engineers, ultimately they have little or no control over the quality of work that is carried out in their name.
